Enjoy unbridled fun at the Tryon International Equestrian Center
You don’t need a horse — or any knowledge of competitive horse shows — to enjoy the Tryon International Equestrian Center in the North Carolina foothills. It’s free to visit and is quickly emerging as one of the greatest equestrian centers in the world. The center hosts a range of visitor-friendly events throughout the year. During warm-weather months, Saturday Night Lights Grand Prix events offer fun for the whole family, including face-painting, free carousel rides, live music and, of course, competitive show jumping. While you’re there, choose from dining options ranging from a 50s-style diner to wood-fired pizza to sushi and more. Want to make a weekend of it? Stay on-site in a log cabin large enough for the whole family, or book a romantic retreat for two at the Lodge on Lake Lure a 25-minute drive away. The center is the cornerstone of what eventually will be Tryon Resort, a 1,400-acre destination to include a sports complex, 18-hole golf course, 175-room hotel, 90 condo units and a spa.
